- The aim of this research proposal is to examine the role of Intellectual Capital Management (ICM) in the mission statements of subvented NGOs in the social welfare sector of Hong Kong (HK). The key analysis or business problem is to assess to which extent do NGOs In the social welfare sector of HK adopt the key facets of ICM namely: Human Capital, Relational Capital or Structural Capital. To date there are 165 subvented NGOs in Hong Kong. The purpose of the project is to ascertain the validity and viability of the impact that the NGOS have on their recipients. At a deeper level this project also begs the question that can NGOS make the ‘good works’ they do an intangible asset of their organisations thus demonstrating the impact the NGOs have on their recipients? This demonstration is very important as the NGOS that will be studied are all subvented by the Hong Kong Government, there has been some public decrying that these subvented NGOs are not being adequately held to account. Therefore if these NGOs can show that the value of their ‘good works’ can become a hallmark of the NGO this would go along away in justifying the continual funding they receive.
